History of Pekingese

It is a very old breed that is believed to exist over 2,000 years. The Chinese wanted to have a cruel and threatening look to rid the evil spirits. He was the favorite dog of the Imperial Court of China and nobody else was allowed to possess one. The punishment for the Pekingese theft was death. But when the European troops occupied the palace in the 19th century, there were also some Pekingese who arrived in Europe and began systematic reproduction.

Health and Care

Pekingese often has breathing problems as well as problems with his eyes as well as heart problems. This is due to the small skull and the dog’s face level. Skin allergies and eye ulcers also appear often. It is important that Pekingese does not stay outdoors since its flat nose and face can cause breathing problems, which makes it difficult to regulate body temperature in very cold or hot weather. The far back, compared to its small legs, makes it vulnerable to back injuries. That’s why we need to be very careful when we pick up a Pekingese. The best way is to have one hand on his chest and the other on his belly.

Very short legs cause him problems with the stairs. Older dogs may not be able to climb or descend a ladder without our help. Pekingese needs intensive care. His long hair needs to be brushed daily. Particular attention should be paid to brushing the legs, where the fur is longer and livelier. You should often do so, with special dog shampoos. The eyes and face should be cleaned daily.
