Cat’s Lifespan

Cat’s Lifespan

There is no single answer to this question, as the cat’s lifespan depends on a number of factors, such as the environment where it lives, its diet and its state of health. Estimates generally range from 10 to 20 years, so the average life of a cat is 15 years.
But what factors influence it, increasing it or reducing it by case? Let’s look at some of them:

-Sterilization increases the cat’s lifespan as it protects it from various genital diseases that can develop at an advanced age.

– The race to which he belongs also plays a part. Generally, half-breed cats tend to be immune and live longer than purebred ones.

-Gender counts: as is the case with humans, female cats are expected to live longer than males (around two years on average).

-If living in the house or on the street also matters. Usually, domestic cats live a lot more than stray dogs – according to some estimates, they have three times the life expectancy! The reason; Domestic cats are sterilized, vaccinated and protected not only by illness but also by all the dangers of the road. In addition, they have stable access to food and fresh, clean water.

By leaving my cat out, do I put it in danger?

It depends on where you live. Is your home near a busy street? How many cats are there in the area? Are cats wandering in the area mostly dominated or stray? Have cases in your neighborhood been reported?

These are some of the questions whose answers affect the cat’s lifespan that has a stable home (hence, it is probably vaccinated, neutered and well nourished) but is also exposed to some of the dangers of the road. In general, however, even a cat with a stable house that runs out has a lower life expectancy than another living in an apartment.

Which factors in the home threaten my cat’s lifespan?

Obesity is one of the dangers. That’s why if your cat lives in an apartment, you have to pay particular attention to her diet and provide her with the stimuli that will motivate her to be as active as possible.

How old can a cat get, at best?

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the highest recorded age that cats have ever reached is 38 years and three days! The record belongs to Crème Puff, a cat who lived in Austin, Texas. Most cats, however, reach ages ranging from 23 to 36 years, depending on the above-stated factors.
